We’re All Going on a Summer Holiday!

Updated: Oct 12, 2022

J Farrow writes about the top 4 holidays this year. With the prospect of travel almost back to normal, here are NK’s favourite places to enjoy a fantastic holiday

Lake District, England

The Lake District is a beautiful place located in the northwest of England, and a highly popular place for families across England to embrace the scenery and enjoy the many attractions and activities. The Lakes are rightly famous for walking, cycling and hiking across mountains such as Cat bells, Bowell, and Scar fell Pike (the highest peak in England). If I were to be perfectly honest it may be a little rainy during some months, however it still keeps its beauty even in horizontal rain.

Rhodes, Greece

Rhodes is just one of the 227 beautiful islands that lay around the heavenly country of Greece. The island is named after the Greek goddess Rhodes, daughter of Poseidon, god of the sea. With its sunny weather, friendly people, and creative market stalls, it is one of the most popular Greek islands to visit. There are many attractions available such as scuba diving, canoeing, and admiring the local temples (from ancient Greek to medieval). The beaches are quiet and peaceful. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkelling, and you are guaranteed to see many colourful and exotic fish.

Czarina Gora (Black Mountain), Poland

Czarina Gora is a mountain located within the Surety mountain range known for its many scenic ski runs, often going through forests and past mountain streams. The resort is located two hours away from the beautiful city of Wroclaw and is much cheaper than other standard European skiing destinations like Switzerland, Austria, France etc. For history fans, many famous castles lay around the area as a result of Germany’s occupation until around 120 years ago.

Baldock, England

There are many activities to enjoy in and around the bustling market town of Baldock. During the hot weather there is nowhere better to spend a day than Letchworth Outdoor Pool. The Olympic-sized pool has a fantastic 15 foot deep end which is perfect for perfecting your dive or belly flop. Around Baldock there are many great walks and you can also re-live the Greenway; the later is really good for a cycle ride and leave around 2 to 3 hours. Further afield, you can get a train (off-peak is cheapest) to London and Cambridge for amazing museums and attractions.

(Remember to check with your parents or guardians before going on any local tours)

Levi, Finland

Levi is a great place to have an amazing holiday and has so much to offer like skiing, snowboarding, riding on a sledge led by a pack of huskies, ice fishing and much more. I loved my trip there, after an hour I never wanted the leave! Levi has one of he largest ski resort in Finland. It also has one of two gondola lifts (with enclosed cabins) in Finland, and has been chosen as the best domestic skiing resort in Finland four times in a row. In the summer the exciting ski slopes become an exhilarating bike hiking journey. When the snow eventually melts, Levi changes it snowmobile experiences to cycling through its beautiful forest and land.
