The school’s Instagram has gone viral with a post that has achieved phenomenal views, writes H Pedersen

@knightstemplarschool Instagram has posted a video that now has over three million views. Figures in millions of clicks are normally associated with celebrities like Cristiano Ronaldo, a Kardashian or something viral like two blokes kicking a football into a waterfall (guess what, it floats back to them) for half a billion views. KTS joined the million-plus club for a reel where students at our school were seen unlocking their huSH pouches.

The Head’s PA, Mrs Roper, is the creative genius behind the school's stellar-successful Instagram account. NewsKnight caught up with her to pose these questions:

Were you expecting this video to get this many views?

We were aware that phone pouches are a hot topic at the moment in many countries. As you’re probably aware there have been many articles in the press about the addictive nature of phones and how excess use can be mentally harmful to children.

What was your aim when creating the video?

Mr Hutchings wanted to gain support from the parents with this initiative and this was an effective way of demonstrating to them how the use of phone pouches in school would be implemented.

Has the video impacted the school in any way?

The positive impact is that Instagram account gives the school an additional way to communicate with the school community. Along with the weekly bulletin it enables the school to share events and activities with both existing parents and students. It also gives future students an insight into school life at KTS.

Do you think phone pouches have had a positive impact at school?

Yes, we believe it has helped students to focus more knowing that they can’t access their phones. It’s good for us all to have a time out period away from our phones.

ree

Do you think people have warmed to the idea of phone pouches?

Yes, the vast majority of students have found it relatively easy to manage, with some describing how it has helped them know that they can manage without access to their phone. Parents have been universally supported throughout and we really appreciate their support with this initiative

KTS’ Instagram goes from strength to strength and we now have 2,871 followers which is huge for a secondary school. The school’s Instagram account often has thousands of views and one with millions. Well done, Mrs Roper!
