KTS NewsKnight has won Best Overall Content (Digital) at the prestigious Shine Media Awards – the Oscars for school newspapers, magazines and websites.
Three members of the team, L Russell, J Farrow and W Wootten, were over the moon as NK was announced as the winner. The judging panel including luminaries from Channel 4 News, The Guardian and, NK alumni and Shine winner, Bill Bowkett of the Daily Mail. The team remarked: “One word sprang to the judges’ mind when reading NewsKnight: fun!” and it is “A complete media package and a worthy winner.”

It was almost 10 years since NewsKnight had qualified for the Shine awards, so staff lead, Mr McDermott, was ecstatic. “I’m so proud of all the team,” he said. “I’ve seen members, like Josh and Louis, go from enthusiastic Year 7s to skilled journalists/videographers/editors. What’s more, we are now gaining high quality VI Formers like Nina and Max to progress further.
“Given the competition at Shine and the fact that we’ve entered without success for a few years, I was equally amazed and delighted when we were called up as winners!”
